Beer Tax?

New York has the HIGHEST state tax on gas and cigarettes in the country. NY also has a higher than average sales tax. Governor Patterson enacted the Amazon tax, proposed a new tax on gym memberships, soft drinks, and bowling.

I think he is missing the mark here and going in the wrong direction.

I dislike taxes as much as any other Republican, but why put a heavy tax on things people NEED like clothing and gasoline - when the state could tax beer?

That's right - NYS has one of the lowest beer taxes in the country. Check it out for yourself by clicking here.

I like to kick back with a cold one now and then, but clothing my family and the gas I need to get to work is much more important.

It's easy:

  1. Double the $.11 beer tax

  2. Lower the sales tax and gas tax

  3. The price of gas will drop

  4. People will buy more cars

  5. People will buy more clothes and other big ticket items.

Governor Patterson - you know where to find me if you need help.

Solid As Barack

So we all saw the inauguration. What did you think? Pretty GINORMOUS, huh?

Well, the Presidents first 100 days in office have started.

Lets see what he can get done over this first judgement period. I hope for the sake of all of us, he can turn things around.

Broken Promises?

I listed the numerous promises Obama made during his Presidential campaign here.

Remember those GRAND promises of change that were "hyped" to win the election?

I wondered how many of them would actually be put in place during his 100 days in office.

Guess what - I didn't have to wait that long. The President Elect is already backing out of his promises.

Funny thing is, he is starting to blame the state of the economy for the short comings of his campaign trail hype.

But you know what, Mr. Obama, the economy was bad even when you made those promises, so try again.

Barack Obama's Inauguration

Here is another classic case of "we can but you can't" by the liberal media. Rich Noyes wrote a GREAT article about the double standard in the questioning of Inaugural Ball spending.

In 2005, AP writer Will Lester lambasted the $40 million dollar cost of the Inaugural Ball for George Bush. He calculated the impact that kind of money would have on armoring Humvees in Iraq, helping victims of the tsunami, or paying down the deficit. Lester thought the party should be cancelled: “The questions have come from Bush supporters and opponents: Do we need to spend this money on what seems so extravagant?”

But I guess it's "OK" that Barack's Inauguration will be the most expensive in history at a price tag of $150,000,000.00

Why is it that we don't hear Will Lester coming out to ask Barack to cancel his Ball?

Why doesn't he ask how else could that money be used?

The Bail Out

I have been reading a lot of back and forth on the reasons why all of these GIANT corporations, banks, auto manufacturers, etc. need government money.

Some people are saying that there should be another round of stimulus checks sent out to tax payers.

I say none of the above.

I would like a check in the mail as much as the next guy, but it hasn't helped the economy the last couple of times they were sent out.

I'm also not in favour of giving help to the CEO's of failed companies with the potential of putting the company back in the same situation.

My solution:

The government needs to do something that makes us spend money on things other than bills. They need to offer HUGE incentives and tax write offs on big ticket items.

If we buy a car - let us write off the taxes and interest rate.

If we buy a house - let us write off ALL of the closing costs.

If we buy a big ticket electronics item (TV or computer) let us write off the taxes.

I'm sure there are a lot more that we can add to the list.

Think about it - this would make people put money back into the economy.

This would stimulate growth.

Do you REALLY know who you voted for?

We all know John McCain was a war hero. We all Know Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska, mother of a pregnant teen, and has a husband who is a champion snow machine driver. We all know that President Elect Barack Obama was an IL Senator, has two daughters, and likes to play basketball.

Now what about this Joe Biden guy? Ummmm...errrr....uhhh. That's what I usually hear when I talk to people.

Last month, I had a lot of Democrats say to me "We are one stroke away from Palin becoming the president if the Republicans win this election". They went on to talk about how they didn't like her accent or how she was killed in the Katie Curic interview and so on.

I replied to them, if anything happened to Obama, we would have Joe Biden as president. What do you know about him?

I usually get silence.

Could it be because the Democratic party kept him quiet during election time so he didn't "mess things up"? I don't know. What I do know is that a lot of people who voted, had no idea what they were talking about.

A great example can be found on HowObamaGotElected.com Check it out. I have their YouTube video below

Promises, Promises

Well, I took some time to take in the election and the fact that Barack Obama will be our next president.

I have to say I hope he makes things better than they are today. I can't afford for them to get worse.

In saying that, lets talk about his promises.

Many people say “well, every politician makes promises” The difference is, Barack Obama won a historic election by making some pretty monumental promises.

Here is list Jack Tapper started. Did he miss any?

  1. "give a tax break to 95 percent of Americans who work every day and get taxes taken out of their paycheck every week";

  2. "eliminate income taxes on Social Security for seniors making under $50,000";

  3. "give homeowners and working parents additional tax breaks";

  4. not increase taxes on anyone if they "make under $250,000; you will not see your taxes increase by a single dime –- not your income taxes, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax";

  5. "end those breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas";

  6. "give tax breaks to companies that invest right here in the United States";

  7. "eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-up companies that are the engine of job creation in this country";

  8. "create two million new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling roads, and bridges, and schools -- by laying broadband lines to reach every corner of the country";

  9. "invest $15 billion a year in renewable sources of energy to create five million new energy jobs over the next decade";

  10. "reopen old factories, old plants, to build solar panels, and wind turbines";
    build "a new electricity grid";

  11. "build the fuel efficient cars of tomorrow";

  12. "eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in 10 years";

  13. "lower premiums" for those who already have health insurance;

  14. "if you don't have health insurance, you'll be able to get the same kind of health insurance that members of Congress give themselves";

  15. "end discrimination by insurance companies to the sick and those who need care the most";

  16. "invest in early childhood education";

  17. "recruit an army of new teachers";

  18. "pay our teachers higher salaries, give them more support. But ... also demand higher standards and more accountability";

  19. "make a deal with every young person who's here and every young person in America: If you are willing to commit yourself to national service, whether it's serving in our military or in the Peace Corps, working in a veterans home or a homeless shelter, then we will guarantee that you can afford to go to college no ifs ands or buts";

  20. "stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq whole the Iraqis have a huge surplus";

  21. "end this war in Iraq";

  22. "finish the fight and snuff out al Qaeda and bin Laden";

  23. "increase our ground troops and our investments in the finest fighting force in the world";
    "invest in 21st century technologies so that our men and women have the best training and equipment when they deploy into combat and the care and benefits they have earned when they come home";

  24. "No more homeless veterans";

  25. "no more fighting for disability payments."

  26. to withdraw troops within 16 months of the US election.

There is a lot there - lets wait and see.....
